While most people know this, surveys of common passwords repeatedly seem to come up with similar findings: first names, birthday combinations, obvious numerical strings such as 123456 and even the word, “password” being just a few. To play it safe when it comes to passwords, consider the following tips.

Always make passwords at least 8 letters/digits long.
Use a mix of letters, numbers and symbols.
Combine upper and lower case letters.
Don’t use the same password for multiple sites.
Change passwords regularly.
Think creatively to help you remember passwords. Combine the partial name of a favorite author or film character with a month or year that you remember reading that book or seeing the film for instance; or relate it to the site or company that you are using the password for. Do use more obscure passwords that are significant to you and not obvious to anyone around you.
In case you have difficulty remembering passwords it may be worth looking into password management software tools.

Passwords are just one aspect of business equipment protection. It’s recommended to install anti-virus software on all business equipment (even cell phones) and do remember to stay up to date with your commercial insurance. Katy, TX business owners are always welcome to contact their agent for advice and information at any stage.
