1/25/2012 10:10:00 AM
A garage sale can be a great way to rid of unwanted items, clear some space and even make a little money. You want to ensure you have plenty of customers and with a little planning you may help your chances of success. When making your preparations, be sure also to cast a quick glance at your home insurance. Katy, TX providers will generally include liability coverage which may be useful should you be inviting anyone onto your property.

Your first step when planning a sale is to take a look around the house and make a list of what you’d like to include. Should some items be dirty or dusty, make a point to give them a clean and polish. Items in better condition may be more likely to be sold. Work out the site of the sale: garage, front lawn, front pavement and have a contingency plan in case of rain.
Make a date for the sale and consider if you are going to advertise in local papers. You can quickly and easily do up an A4 ad yourself, photocopy it and distribute this around the neighborhood prior to the sale. Group all of your items the night before, have a table and cloth ready to move outside if you are using one, and sticker any items with price tags if you wish to.

Finally, pull out the contract for your home insurance. Katy, TX policies will generally include liability but double check that your policy is up to date and you have a sufficient level of coverage -if you’re unsure, phone your insurance agent for advice.
