Home insurance in Katy, TX and all over the country, is vital when it comes to protecting the home you’ve worked so hard to acquire. Home insurance policies differ between providers, but generally they will cover sudden and unexpected disasters that are listed in the policy, although not general wear and tear costs. Regular maintenance of any home is important to keep your home in good condition and prevent expensive, major repairs. Not sure that you’re doing everything you should? Here’s an annual checklist to get you started:

  • Check plumping and heating systems to help prevent leaks, frozen and burst pipes.
  • Trim trees and shrubs and clean out gutters and drainpipes (preferably each fall and spring).
  • Inspect walls, door frames, windows, window frames and caulking for cracks, splits, leaks or other damage.
  • Inspect the roof for any holes, loose tiles or other issues.
  • Check and lubricate all hinges, handles and locks on internal and external doors.
  • Inspect the fireplace and clean as often as required.
  • Check fire and other alarms and change the batteries regularly.
  • Look out for water marks or other signs of moisture problems.
  • Examine pathways and the driveway for cracks or other damage.
  • Inspect any sprinklers and hoses.

Any repairs should be attended to quickly. Regular maintenance will save you money and if you have a well-maintained property with deadlocks, fire alarms and other safety features in place, it may even save you money on your home insurance.
